In July, 2016 Bulga residents and supporters maintained a 63 day Vigil at Wallaby Scrub Rd, which is the last section of the world heritage listed Great North Rd. We had signs and a petition against the closure of this important historic road and the annihilation of the critically endangered Warkworth Sands Woodland. These precious public assets will end up at the bottom of a foreign owned coal pit.

During the Vigil, friends and family were overwhelmed by supporters and travellers who found it unbelievable that this crucial historic link road and the Warkworth Sands Woodland was set for destruction

It is time for us to gather again. Please come along throughout the day to show your support for our community and concern for the loss of these two highly significant sites.
This is important to us all.

When: This Saturday September 8th 10am – 3pm

Bring a picnic lunch, something to share, throw a sausage on our BBQ or just call by and say hello to show your support.

SUPPORTED BY Lock the Gate Alliance :

Thanks for giving your support in the past to the folks at Bulga that have fought to protect Wallaby Scrub Road from being cut open for the Warkworth coal mine expansion near their village.

On Saturday, we’ll be joining Bulga and Jerry’s Plains locals at a carnival for Wallaby Scrub Road in a celebration of community in defiance of Singleton Council’s decision last month to sell the road to Yancoal and pave the way for its destruction.

Wallaby Scrub Road is a heritage road, built by convicts in the 1830s. It links the villages of Bulga and Warkworth, and is used by an estimated 1000 vehicles each day.

Closing the road will add to emergency services response time on the Golden Highway and let Yancoal dig its mine closer and closer to the village of Bulga.

From 10am till 3pm on this Saturday 8 September, there will be a carnival at the corner of Wallaby Scrub Road and Putty Road in protest against the expansion of the Warkworth mine and loss of this crucial local road.

Bring something to throw on the BBQ, or a picnic lunch, wear bright clothes and celebrate the spirit of the Bulga community with us!

The fight to save Bulga and other villages of the Hunter Valley from the noise and dust of coal mining is ramping up in the lead up to the next election. Come along to the carnival to find out how you can be involved, and then join us next month as we picnic at Michael Johnsen MP’s office demanding action to save our Valley!

We hope to see you there,

George, Dan and Dave
